Food Security Education Project (FSEP)
M.Sc. and Ph.D. Scholarship Application - 2026

The FSEP initiated a scholarship program in 2024 for B.Sc. candidates who wish to pursue an in-country degree in one of the many food security-related sciences. Twenty scholarships were awarded in 2025 (see scholars), with scholars now pursuing a B.Sc. degree of their choice. We anticipate awarding a similar number of scholarships again in 2026 (see online application).

In the interim we have learned of the alarming decline in expert-level human resources in Nepal’s agriculture and food security sectors. We are aware of the importance of the agricultural sector in Nepal’s economy and the need to improve food and nutritional security for Nepali citizens, especially in the face of climate-related adversities. The need for a well-trained workforce is essential to address these challenges and provide solutions based on sound training and in-country experiences where candidates remain embedded in the Nepali context.

The application period for our first cohort of M.Sc./Ph.D. candidates closed as of December 16, 2025. However, we will continue to accept online applications year-round using the online application form below. These applications will be reviewed periodically, and at least by December 15th of each year, by Nepali and FSEP advisors. Their evaluation will be based on national priorities, budgetary limitations and content of proposals. Their recommendations will be forwarded to members of the FSEP Board of Directors for final approval. Only one submission per applicant will be accepted.

Important information about the application process, key requirements, and applicant selection criteria may be downloaded here. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review this document in order to prepare their application materials.
