B.K. is from a Dalit family in the Tanahun District of Gandaki Province in central Nepal. She lost her father when she was in grade eight. Her family now raises goats as a source of income. She is in a B.Sc. Ag degree program at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science at Tribhuvan University in Chitwan. B.K. is interested in soil science as the basis of agricultural productivity. She is from a very hilly region, with fallow land that could contribute to food security with improved agronomic technologies and skills for local farmers, as well as for the many farmers in Nepal with similar conditions.
